Wine Poached Pears

Wine Poached Pears by Wilmax

There is hardly another fruit that is specially prepared using wine. Pears poached in wine have become a culinary classic. This dessert is amazingly delicious, beautiful and exquisite.
The cooking process is not fast, but only slow cooking will make your pears well-soaked, translucent and fragrant. We suggest you prepare the dish in advance. And your guests will surely be delighted and impressed!

Ingredients

  • 2 pears
  • 1½ cup red wine
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 clove buds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon grated ginger
2

Directions

Peel the pears but leave the stem, cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear to make them stand better. Pour wine and orange juice into a pot, add sugar, orange zest and spices. Simmer at low heat until sugar dissolves. Carefully place the pears into the pot, bring to boil, reduce the heat and simmer with closed lid for 30 to 40 minutes. To make sure the pears are well-soaked, leave them to cool in the liquid. Take the pears out, and boil the liquid until it turns syrupy. Pour the syrup over the pears and serve with a scoop of ice cream or mascarpone.
And surely we cannot fail to mention a serving platter for the ready dish. WILMAX suggests you use a triangular WL-996103 plate to serve this wonderful dessert. Bon appetit!
