Tempeh Chili by Sarah Xiong

You can also substitute beef for tempeh. No beans! (other than the tempeh)

Ingredients

  • 2 packages of tempeh, cubed 1/4" pieces
  • 1-2 heads of garlic, choppped
  • 1 large onion, minced
  • 4 jalapenos, seeded
  • 2 habenernos, seeded
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 28 oz can of tomato sauce
  • beef bullion or paste
  • chicken bullion or paste
  • 1 mexican beer
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 2 tbsp cumin, or more
  • 2 tbsp chili powder, or more
  • salt
10 servings

Directions

Boil tempeh in water for about 10 minutes to remove that earthy tempeh flavor. Dice and set aside.

Saute garlic, onion, and chilis in oil til fragrant. Add chili powder and cumin and fry a bit. Add tempeh til powder covers the surface. Add tomato sauce, beef and chicken flavoring. Add the beer and wine. Simmer for at least an hour or two. Add salt to taste.
