Nước chấm is a common light sauce for dipping meats, veggies, fried things, whatever.

This is your base recipe. Add garlic or those hot little chilis chopped up.

If you're new to fish sauce (nuoc nam), buy Red Boat or Three Crabs brand.


  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 thai chile, finely chopped
1/2 cup


Whisk the water and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Whisk in the fish sauce and lime juice. Add in the garlic and chilis.
