Most of my tiki-loving friends have palates that are fine-tuned to pick out the common spice flavors used in traditional tiki drinks: clove, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice. I wanted to create a new tiki drink that would return them to the time when tiki flavors were exotic and unexpected, so I turned to garam masala, an Indian spice mixture more commonly used in savory cooking.
Ingredients
- 1-1/4 oz Cruzan white rum
- 3/4 oz Appleton V/X rum
- 3/4 oz fresh grapefruit juice
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 3/4 oz garam masala syrup
- 3/4 oz club soda
- sprig of mint
1 drink
Directions
Shake the rums, juices and syrup together with ice. Pour into a tall glass, top with the club soda, and garnish with the mint sprig.
