Shamrock Shake

Sure you can do this without the food coloring...but it wouldn't be a Shamrock Shake...would it?

The recipe from Epicurious said to use 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract but everyone complained about it being too overpowering. So I opted to use mint extract (which is a combination of spearmint and peppermint oils) and less of it.


  • 1-1/2 cups vanilla ice cream (so much easier if you weight it)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 10 drops green food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint extract
  • whipped cream (optional)
  • maraschino cherries (optional)
1 serving


Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Pour in a glass and, if desired, top with whipped cream and a cherry.
