barbecue sauce

This barbecue sauce starts with bacon. Enough said. I've simplified it starting with Donald Link's brilliant recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices thick bacon, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 yellow onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Korean red pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
1+ cup

Directions

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until it just starts to crisp.

Add in the rest of the ingredients and simmer until thick and the flavors merge, about 20 minutes.
