This frosting is easy to make and foolproof. Everyone loves it. One time when I was about to throw away the leftovers after frosting a cake, Liz Dunn literally lunged across the kitchen to stop me, screaming NOOOOOoooo! (in slow motion, it seemed) so she could eat the rest with a spoon.
Ingredients
- 1/2 stick butter, softened
- (if you want, you can do 1/2 and 1/2 butter and vegetable shortening... it's more old-school midwestern that way)
- 3-4 cups powdered sugar
- 4-5 T milk
- 1/2 t vanilla extract
- 1/2 t cinnamon
enough for 8-inch round
Directions
Beat the butter with 1/2 C powdered sugar until it is soft and fluffy. Add the vanilla and cinnamon. Then slowly alternate between adding more powdered sugar and 1 T of milk until you've got the right flavor and consistency.

I made a kind of limp glaze for my pop tarts, but I think this would be a whole lot better. You kind of can't go wrong with butter and powdered sugar, but I get the addition of cinnamon sends it over the top.
