Korean Porridge (gyeran jook)

Korean Porridge (gyeran jook) by belinda

This is known as "sick rice" in my family because it's what we ate when under the weather. There are a million variations with chicken, mushrooms, etc. This is a good go-to when your stomach's upset as well.

Ingredients

  • rice
  • water
  • soy sauce
  • salt
  • pepper
  • egg
1 serving

Directions

Place 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup rice in a blender with enough water to get the blades going. Hit whichever setting will break down the rice into smaller particles. Let rice sit in water in blender for about 30 minutes, to allow it to soften a little.

Add rice to pot with about a cup of water. Bring to boil then let simmer until porridge is at desired consistency. Whisk often to prevent rice from sticking and burning on bottom of pot. Mix in egg, soy sauce, salt, and pepper to taste.
