I love hearts, and I love sugar cookies. Now put them together.

You can spice up these cookies by adding a teaspoon of nutmeg when you're assembling the dough, or sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar. Or just decorate.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp whole milk or half-and-half
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
6-8 dozen

Directions

In the bowl of a standing mixer, cream the butter & sugar. Add in egg, milk, and vanilla. Add in baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add in flour.

Chill dough in the refrigerator for at least an hour (or save it for a later date).

Preheat oven to 350ยบ.

Dust work surface with flour. Remove some dough, returning the unused portion to the refrigerator. Roll the dough 1/8" thick and use cookie cutters to shape the cookies. Place on parchment-lined cookie sheet. Sprinkle, decorate, or leave the cookies naked.

Bake for 6-8 minutes or until the edges just start to turn golden brown.

Place on a wire rack to cool.
