cherry muddler

cherry muddler by joanie

Despite the sugar, this drink is not sweet. It's like a mojito but with cherries and basil and no mint and not as sweet. And it has vodka, not rum. Okay, it's nothing like a mojito. It's what you serve your friend who doesn't like mojitos because they're too sweet. As far as the basil goes, it has a presence but is not overwhelming; it's just right. It tastes like summer...like a sophisticated Martha Stewart-ish summer.

Ingredients

  • 8 cherries
  • 4 basil leaves
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 shots vodka
  • tonic water
  • ice
2 glasses

Directions

Pit the cherries. Cut them in half. Muddle the cherries, basil, and sugar.

Fill 2 glasses halfway with ice. Add a shot of vodka to each. Add muddled cherry mix, and fill the rest of the glass with tonic water.

Serve, maybe with a little lemon.

Yeah, I think you could keep it in the fridge, but why? It tastes so fresh that you'd do it a disserve to save it. Just drink more! (BTW, what's your beef with tonic water?)

This looks GREAT. Except normally I am not a fan of tonic water. But I'll try it your way first and reserve judgement. Would the cherry muddle sauce keep in the fridge, do you think?
