Description

Blueberries are a popular berry commonly used in breakfast and dessert recipes. You'll find them in muffins, pancakes, and pies, but they're also great consumed raw as a snack.

So-called "wild" blueberries are smaller and have more intense color and flavor.

When in season, blueberries are sold fresh. Frozen blueberries are widely available and need only minutes to thaw.

Nutritional Info

Blueberries are high in fiber and vitamins A and K. They are incredibly high in antioxidants and relatively low in terms of their glycemic index. They have been found to lower cholesterol and boost the immune system. They also contain compounds (notably anthocyanins) associated with healthy memory and reduced depression--more happier memories!

Seasonality

North American blueberries are harvested from late spring to late summer, while South American and Australian blueberry harvest is nearly all year round.
